Well the Snow Blizzard for the moment is over, with many anticipating even more snow in february, but i thought it would be nice to round up 2009 in 1 post, so here it is, my 2009 year in a nutshell.
January was a rough month, it started with Dublin’s Music institution Road Records announcing it was to close, a massive responce from the music community led to it being re-opened soon after, i had the Tramore Darts Players Championship and drove 3 hours only to lose 5-0 first round. Dublin Bus Flexed its recession muscles laying off 200 people. Snow Caused Disruptions for Traffic and Air Travel too, pretty rough month.
Early February saw our Madrid Trip, which ended up snow extended, this was a fun trip and probably the only thing of note in february really bar a trip to see HotLeg @ The Village on the 27th which was fun but truly i think Hawkins will be lucky to emulate the success of The Darkness with this band.
March started with an invite from MCD to the Oxegen Launch which was much obliged, Then the next day i was off to see the Watchmen Premiere which was excellent and introduced by Rick O Shea, Then on the 13th i had a bit of Drama on the M50 involving a Tyre Blowing out which was mad then on the 23rd me and Chucky hit the airways to go see Arsenal .vs. Newcastle in St. James Park, Ireland Won the 6 Nations too, which made irish hearts soar and Paddy’s day was a lovely beautiful day in contrast to january and february snow.
April consister of lovely Suzannes Sheridans 21st and then Myself, Cashen and Ross went along to Whelans for the Fight Like Apes Video for Something Global which was hella fun and we are now in (albeit for a few seconds) a music video, check that off the
todo list. Dublin Bus went on Strike, and we had the budget which was lovely and drastic.
May saw Trinity Ball 2009 which was an epic night even though i was probably the only one wearing a blue shirt. Dublin got a new bridge across the Liffey called the Samuel Beckett Bridge, There was the Docklands Festival which was fun too. Colmchilles Darts Team which i play for Won everything on offer in the Rushtown Darts League, The Singles (Mick Barry) Doubles (Jacko Barry and Mick Barry) 3 a Side (Collie Tynan, Mick Barry, Jacko Barry) 5 a side, The League and The Cup.
June saw the Street Performance World Championships in Merrion Square which was fun and i had an eventful day at the Mick Maxwell Trophy after a mad night out at a Clare O Dea’s for a BBQ, There was also a trip to town for Dead Poet Society in Meeting House Square and a fun friend day out with frisbee and blue bar’s famous buffalo wings.
July was a good month, Jukebox Annie return to the Stage, Phil had a moving out Party, We as a group went to portugal to Praia Da Rocha which was epic and Rock The House Charity Gig took place in Eamonn Dorans (now 3 crown alley), Also Wacko Jacko bit the bullet much to the dismay of Millions of Fans worldwide anticipating the This is It Tour.
August is always my favourite month, mostly because it starts with my birthday, this year My Birthday in CastlePalooza was epic, with the Glam Rock Cops stealing the show and becoming the talk of the festival. An Ex-GF was in a Plane Crash but survived, i had a night out to Mark Turning 24, Helen Deane Moves Away to scotland so we had a goodbye party.Charity Gig : Monsters Ball organised by Sarah Madigan saw Jukebox Annie break up and i competed in the Tom Kirby Championship to try win a spot in the PDC World Championship, The Malahide Rail Bridge Collapsed which was a bit mad but Dublin Bus picked up the slack for the train with special bus’s, Liberty Hall was covered with the playhouse LED setup which became a bit of a must see thing in dublin for a while.
September saw Goldenplec Shortlisted for Web Awards in the Category of Best Music Website, an accolade that was rather unexpected, Dublin County Council launched the Bike Scheme where bikes could be rented across the city for a nominal fee, Dublin Bus and LUAS held their first war of the transport methods with the outcome largely a draw.
October had Ireland somehow reverse their No vote on Lisbon to this time Vote YES by a majority, Ray Foley wins National DJ of the Year, myself and Kev out at Hard Working Class Heroes as Press covering the Event which was new for us, we managed to experience a host of venue’s and new bands which was great fun. The
DEAF Festival also happened this month. There was Pole Dancing with New found friends in Mcgowans Pub, Jacko Barry beat Mick Mcgowan and Steve Beaton to set up a Quarter final match with Raymond Barneveld, in the end the 5 time world champion proved too strong for Jacko but a heroic attempt all the same. I was dancing with a mop in Thomas Reids and had it confiscated, Jacks Birthday also saw the finding of the worst DJ’s in the World playing the Decks at No Disko, made us all cringe. Also Me, Tess, Chuck and Cashen attended a Defining moment in our Lives, Fleetwood Mac @ The 02, they were unbelievable with Highlights being The Chain and Big Love. Ireland got drawn against France with no idea of the drama to come
November was started in true halloween fashion and for me as always it was 2 costumes, firstly Fighter Pilot Maverick from Top gun, and later on i switched to Joel from Risky Business, a tom cruise double play, the country was in the grip of the Swine Flu Pandemic which took over the airwaves and news headlines which got repetitive and annoying. Manny Pacquio bashed up Miguel Cotto but to be fair Cotto lasted the full set of rounds, Ireland were dumped out of the world cup by a cheating Thierry Henry and the french team who celebrated a complete con of a goal. Sepp Blatter didnt care, The French FA had no sympathy and Raymond Domenech didnt understand why
we wanted an apology. I shaved into shape for a short time my Mo-vember, but i didnt keep it long. Sporting Fingal won the Cup and Promotion in an incredible second season. Jedward Mania ends as they finally are kicked off the show. Kiss announce european tour including dublin start date!. Ray Foley raises 100k for the flood victims on the West of Ireland after the worst rain in years turning the West Coast into the lost city of Atlantis. Cashen college work forces him to pull out of Little Boots Gig in The Academy, but i replace him with Aine. Diagnosed with a Flu likely to be swine flu by the doctor
December started for me with a Exhibition against young darts protege Adrian Lewis,
on the Night between us in the practice darts before the match we hit a 9 darter, lewis hitting 180, me hitting 180 and him taking out 141,Xmas FM returned and brought joy to the air ways, Ray Foley brought his lazy radio tour to Sword in the Wright Venue which myself chuck and katie headed along to, we had an epic night, Ciara and the lads finally see each other for a night out which was lovely, dont see Ciara Pykett enough, Went to see the movie “The Box” confused as hell as to what happened, The Answer played the Academy with myself and Chuck in Attendance and it has to be said it was absolutely rocking. i finished up in work on the 17th of december, had a few nights out
including a mad night out for clares birthday on the 23rd which contained 1 girl ending our dating, another getting my number off friends and a taxi driver scraping the inside of my car trying to overtake me. i also had a mad date where we tried to ice skate, RDS was closed due to weather, we went to bowling and pool which i won whilst trying to lose (even looking away while throwing i hit a strike) then later on the car wouldnt start. Nightmare. New years was rung in, at the lovely home of Maca and Melissa with chucky and some of maca’s college friends, we had a roast dinner at 11pm and rung in the new years with a few drinks, dancing and good tunes, can fault it one bit.
Thats my 2009 in review, it was a pretty good year on all account, and considering the new year has started as following picture will depict, i imagine 2010 could be just as interesting
