So after weeks of mailing around trying to garner guestlist entry to the trinity ball, it turns out cashen has an uncle with spare tickets knocking around. Fortunately for me, cashen offers to bring me along along with dermo and ger after getting himself 4 tickets. Awesome
So we headed along to a small party in an apartment in town with hunter and garrigan to an apartment owned by one of hunters ex girlfriends mates. It was a peach of an apartment right in the centre of town with a full on upstairs and downstairs which was unusual but awesome. We chatted to a few of the people there before all heading down towards trinity for the ball.
we had left it late and started at the Outdoor stage with a band called “Attention Bebe” they had a load of people on stage all dressed up in mad outfits with trumpets and the likes and some rather compelling tunes.
After enjoying their set we headed to the dance tent for a while for a bit of a dance, unfortunately the trinity ball seemed to be filled with over drunk arrogant pricks who were falling about the place knocking into everyone including some girls and actually hurt a few of them, we decided to cut our losses and leave that and we ended up mostly getting split up but me and cashen headed for some food and then ran into D-dog and Hunter at Hellz Bellz, who were absolutely awesome, they rocked the shit out of the outdoor tent, we ran into Niamh Ryan while we were dancing away there too which was cool.
After Hellz Bellz and some Air Guitaring exchanges by me and D-dog we were to head over for a bit of japanese popstars, but the music that came on the PA after Hellz Bellz started me and ger dancing manically around to the point where we started to attract a crowd. The other boys turned up and we all danced away while the music stayed good, R.S.A.G came on and i stayed to watch a bit of his set before heading over to the Other Tent where Fight Like Apes were playing, I thought R.S.A.G. was impressive and im hoping to catch him at Castlepalooza.
Me and Cashen headed over to Fight Like Apes with Garrigan and the rest went to see Calvin Harris, me and cashen were front and centre at fight like apes and i think as maykay was singing she recognised us from the rake of previous Flapes gigs we had been at as when she came over to lean into the crowd she continually came over to where we were before leaning in. Neither myself nor cashen were complaining. After a while we realised garrigan was gone, only for us to look behind the stage and there he was watching the entire gig from back stage, we had no idea how he got back there and when we quizzed him after he had no recollection just remembers waving back to us from back there.
Flapes were awesome, cashen is so over them apparently, after flapes we grabbed some food and decided to call it a night, we found the lads and headed out, as i came out of trinity there were guards directing the human traffic, the lads were heading left while me and poisoned cashen were heading right, we went to just say good bye to the lads and cashen started walking left, when i leaned back to grab him to bring him the right way a guard came over and asked me to move on.
I said, no problem, im just grabbing my friend, he’s coming with me, she then pushed me and said “i said now!”, i dont know why but i got extremely pissed off with that and said “Dont push me” she shoved me again and said “move on now”, at which point i got really thick and went on a rant at her telling her not to get above her station and not to think that the badge entitles here to anything other than enforcing the laws of ireland and that i was one of the few sober people coming out of this event and if she persisted i would take her badge number and report her, at this point the male garda came over and shoved me aswell, i went to square up to him saying “dont fucking push me” when cashen grabbed me saying man its not worth it, 2 garda .vs. you and a drunk cashen, i cant back up whats happening because im drunk.
I reluctantly left absolutely disgusted with what had happened but cashen was dead right, there was literally nothing i could have done because the other guard would just back up the others story. Its an awful feeling to be literally pushed around (no doubt had i shoved back i’d have been “assaulting a garda”) yet i had no way to stop it without being arrested.
How and ever despite this little glitch it was a good night overall and the music was cracking, might even try go again next year if we can get some free tickets through GP or cashen sources.
